Weight Loss For Moms-How To Make Healthy Holiday Hot Chocolate

Weight loss for moms During the holidays. A post by Holly Rigsby

The Holidays just wouldn’t be the same without sipping on cups of hot cocoa!

But many of the commercialized hot chocolates out there are loaded with sugar, partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats) and artificial ingredients. Have you read the ingredients list of many of the leading Hot Chocolate Brands out there? Shocking! Even the ones I find at Whole Foods!

This can really hurt any weight loss for moms that could be achieved.

In an effort to make sure you and I can still enjoy our favorite Holiday Sweets and Treats I did some experimenting with my Prograde Lean Chocolate Meal Replacement.

This is the recipe I came up with ~ Enjoy!

Holly’s Healthy Holiday Hot Chocolate

2. Slowly add Prograde Lean Chocolate Meal Replacement using a wire whisk to mix
3. Add in Cinnamon and Vanilla Extract to Taste

Pour, sip and enjoy!

This Holiday Hot Chocolate is a thick, delicious and filling drink that will not sabotage your fitness plan. Total calories for this drink is a mere 175 just 6 grams of sugar, 4 grams of fiber and 16 grams of protein!

Variations
Of course you can choose to add what you like to your Healthy Holiday Hot Chocolate Recipe.

Here’s a couple ideas!

~ Flavor with any of your favorite holiday spices
~ Add a Peppermint Stick
~ Add a stick of Cinnamon

Tyler likes it best when I make his with Horizon’s Organic Vanilla Milk!

HI Holly I would love some Prograde, it is the 13/12/09 today, is the Prograde still on special offer? Thank you Holly.

  4. Hi Holly,

Is it OK to make this with chocolate protein powder instead of the chocolate meal replacement powder? I want to make some healthy hot chocolate tonight. I’ve been craving for a cup of this stuff but I was shocked when I looked at all the yucky ingredients that were in the prepackaged stuff I had in the pantry- needless to say that I chucked that stuff! ;-) Thanks Holly!

  5. noha says:

    very good work

  6. Yaseena says:

    This sounds absolutely fantastic.
I will try it with Cocoa powder.
    thanks Holly.

  7. Jane says:

I was just thinking last night when adding Lean to my peppermint tea for the first time since your tip about that, that a hot chocolate would be good too! Thanks for the recipe Holly and just wondering, are they good enough to be a treat without counting as a PI?

I also like using the unsweetened chocolate almond milk

  10. Holly Rigsby says:

    Hey Kia!
    Yes Prograde delivers to Australia!

And Pernilla – you are welcome to make hot chocolate however you like – I am simply sharing how I used my Meal Replacement in a creative way.

  11. pernilla says:

Why not just make it from pure cocoa powder, some stevia (or possibly agave nectar), organic milk (or almond milk) and some spices if you like? I like to add a touch of salt and some cayenne pepper or chili pepper.

  12. Kia Komadina says:

Is Prograde available in Australia yet?? I am loving the sound of the hot chocolate…although here, at the moment, I would be having something chilled!!

  13. Kari says:

Definitely going to try it tonight! Yum! It’s easy to enjoy holiday treats with your tips Holly! Thanks!

  14. Denise says:

    Looks yummy!!!

  15. Sally says:

This is so delicious!!! I added a drop of peppermint extract for a guilt free chocolate mint flavor!

Another idea is to make it with vanilla flavored protein powder instead of chocolate and add a tablespoon of cocoa.

The vanilla as the base gives it a really rich flavor, and if you make it with water instead of milk you get all the yum without the added calories.

Dark cocoa powder is only 5 calories per tablespoon.

Thanks for the fun idea, Holly!

  16. Holly Rigsby says:

    Thank you Jayson!
    You are the best!

  17. This is Jayson Hunter R&D Director for Prograde Nutrition and I just wanted to clarify that Prograde Lean is perfectly fine to be heated. It doesn’t degrade with mild heat.

Now if you were to boil it for many minutes then yes some of the properties would start to breakdown.

A short amount of heat like Holly describes when making her Hot Chocolate is perfectly fine.

  18. Heidi says:

i like to have my cup of “hot chocolate” at night when I’m winding down for the day. Sometimes with milk, sometimes with almond milk – either way, when it’s heated up (but not to hot, of course), it’s so yummy and relaxing and so easy to forget it’s good for me too!

  19. yllek says:

    hi Holly!
do you know if prograde is available in mauritius?

  20. Katherine says:

I like to brew a cup of flavored tea, add a splash of milk and then add my prograde lean. Very Yummy! I’ll be trying this too.

  21. Naomi says:

Two things. Are you sure it is okay to heat the Prograde mix? I thought it was only good cold.

And also, Horizon is not truly organic. They are not following the standards. Organic Valley is better or local raw milk.
