Is Skipping Meals To Lose Weight Fast The Right Thing To Do?
“Yesterday I skipped breakfast and lunch. I guess I just want to lose weight and still have the mentality that eating less is better. So why is it so bad to skip meals?”
In our constant search of a shortcuts to see faster weight loss results, it would seem that one of the easiest things to do would be to eat less, right?
Well….when you pair “weight loss” and “shortcuts”, time and time again you will only find yourself frustrated and worse yet…..further from the results you long for.
Why can’t weight loss be as easy as missing a meal or two? Isn’t it all about cutting calories?
When it comes to eating for fat loss, it’s not about eating less meals.
It is really quite the opposite as it is all about eating more meals that are filled with more supportive foods, high nutrient – lower calorie whole foods.
It is nearly impossible to overeat when you apply this strategy.
First let’s see WHY skipping meals is a Bad Idea when it comes to fat loss.
Understanding WHY makes all the difference to your ability to make permanent changes to your eating habits.
Consequences of Skipping:
While skipping meals may temporarily make you feel lighter and your stomach feel a bit flatter, doing so can lead to a number of negative effects.
Choose not to eat and you are WILLINGLY sabotaging your metabolism and your ability to make good choices.
~ Skipping meals causes your body to go into starvation mode – this means your body will conserve calories (hold on to them) and in turn slow your metabolism and you end up storing calories as fat.
Your Metabolism:
To truly grasp the metabolism concept – picture your metabolism as a fire.

The food you eat will help to fuel this fire. The stronger your fire burns, the more calories and fat your body will burn.
But if you don’t replenish with the right type of foods, often enough, the fire will die down which means your body is burning less calories.
In essence, every time you skip meals or starve yourself in your honest effort to “lose weight”, you are actually slowing down your metabolism as well as making your body more efficient at storing fat.
Oh and there is MORE!
~ Skipping meals can also leave you feeling tired, irritable and unfocused.
What type of impact do you think this will have on your workout….if you even make an effort to workout?
The less effective your workout, the less results you will see.
~ Skipping meals to lose weight fast leads to increased HUNGER and CRAVINGS – now if you wait until you are Hungry before you eat….all those good intentions fly out the window.

So true Holly, I dont see it that way before I’m working on it eating more then before. I’ll make sure to grap something after 3hrs pass and drink water more frequent now.
Wow, I wish I had read this YEARS ago! I just recently decided to change my life and eating habits for good by following the FYM program, and in just 3 days I cannot believe the difference already. I”m excited for the weeks to come
I have not eaten breakfast since I was in middle school, always felt like when I ate early I was hungry all day…I had no idea it was b/c my metabolism was actually doing what it was supposed to be doing, and it was actually ME who was sabotaging it. Now, I am eating the right foods (well, trying anyway) and every 3-3 1/2 hours, and I’m full and energized and thinner already. DONT SKIP MEALS!!!!!!!!
I feel so guilty now because this is what I usually do. I often skip meals thinking it would help me lose weight fast. But I’m glad you brought this up, Holly. I don’t have any problem drinking water but good food really tempts me. My blood pressure is almost at the cut-off point and it worries me. Thanks for all the updates on weight loss. They’ve really helped me choose the right food.
I am living proof that skipping meals doesn’t do a body good. I eat healthy meals regularly and I am much better now than when I skipped on a regular basis. Eating is necessary…choosing wisely is the key!
FYM holds the principles that will give you the body changing tools that work.
hi holly!! what abou intermittent fasting? you lose weight by fasting for 14-24 hours (usually starting after dinner one night and breaking the fast with lunch or dinner the next day).
also, according to several studies, doctors, etc starvation mode doest kick in until 36 hours.
if one has a strong sens of discipline and won’t binge post-IF don’t you think this could be another promising strategy to jump start weight loss? or even a great lifestyle to adopt?
what are your thought? thanks!!
