Secrets to Losing 46 Pounds

s+before Secrets to Losing 46 Pounds My husband says, “You look 10 years younger!” My whole body is becoming toned and firm and as my husband says, “You look 10 years younger.” My tush has a very nice round shape instead of flat and flabby and my upper thighs and ankles are thinner and more shapely than they have been in years and my belly is shrinking! Some of my clothes are literally hanging off my body! During my Fit Yummy Mummy journey, I learned a whole new way of eating and made changes to my nutrition (notice I don’t use the word “diet”) that are changes I can really “live” with. Fortunately for me, food is not my enemy. I was always guilty of not eating enough and not making healthy choices. Now I eat 6 small meals a day and have eliminated most all processed foods and preservatives from my food choices. ~~~ As Shannon’s Fit Yummy Mummy Coach for the past 11 months I must brag on the fact that she is one of the most CONSISTENT women ever! Not a week would pass without seeing updates to her workout logs and progress journal. Here’s a peek inside a couple of her journal entries (yes, at ClubFYM we make it easy with a points system)….. Journal Example 1 My Weekly KUP – End of Week 10 Score is 50 plus 7 Bonus Points = 57 1. FYM workouts ~ 3 pts 2. Intervals ~ 3 pts 3. Supportive meals ~ 42 pts 4. P.I.’s ~ 3 pts 5. Me time ~ 5 pts Bonus pts total = 7 pts logging into Club FYM Average daily water intake = 96 oz Average daily calories = 1607 cals My Workout: I started the July Workouts and am doing the “NO” Treadmill intervals on alternate days. Additional Notes: Still keeping up better this week about making sure I’m getting the right amount of calories! Why is this so hard? My ME time consisted of reading. Journal Example 2 My Weekly KUP – End of Week 1 Score is 50 plus 7 Bonus Points = 57 1. FYM workouts ~ 3 pts 2. Intervals ~ 3 pts 3. Supportive meals ~ 42 pts 4. P.I.’s ~ 3 pts 5. Me time ~ 5 pts Bonus pts total = 7 pts logging into Club FYM Average daily water intake = 85 oz Average daily calories = 1590 cals My Workout: This week I finished the fourth week of the April Workouts A and B and Advanced #2 Intervals (30/30). Maximum repetitions on each exercise, with the exception of the pushups (can now do 4 full pushups and 4 kneeling pushups for each of the 3 sets). Next week I’ll begin using the May Workouts A and B and Bikini Intervals. Additional Notes: I’m doing much better eating 6 times a day! I recalculated my estimated calorie needs using the formula from the Fit Yummy Mummy handbook and I’m consistently taking in 100-150 less calories a day. Just one more Fit Yummy Mummy leading by example and proving that not only do body shaping results come from having a full fitness plan in place….results are the culmination of being CONSISTENT with these strategies, Tracking choices and progress made and getting the right kind of support to ensure goals are continually achieved. Way to go Shannon! ~~~~~~~~~ I have now lost a total of 46 pounds since April 2008! s+side Secrets to Losing 46 Pounds I am determined NEVER to be that out of shape and overweight again! If you really want to know how much that is pick up a bag of dog food (my husband’s favorite trick). We each lifted a 20 lb. bag that represented his weight loss and then he handed me a 34 lb. bag and it literally made my knees buckle. When I think of carrying that much weight around on these bones…it is no wonder my hips, knees and ankles feel so much better! I sleep better, my outlook is brighter and I feel better. These are truly changes that will last a lifetime – and make a better life to live. I like to compare life to learning to ice skate. No one steps out on the ice and does a triple jump the first day (not even Peggy Fleming or Dorothy Hamill). More than likely the first thing you will do is fall down and if you take lessons, the first thing the coach will teach you is how to fall without hurting yourself (think rope instead of plank). So accept that you are going to fall down (and buy silicone knee pads and tush pad to make it less painful – ha ha). Then you have two choices: get up and try again or give up. And failure only happens when you stop trying. My Secrets To Success (other than Holly’s great Fit Yummy Mummy program) have not changed…take your pick, I like all 3! 1. Self-Determination 2. Failure is not an option. 3. In the words of Yoda, “Do or do not…there is no try.” ~ Shannon, Age 51, Mom and Proud member of ClubFYM

Shannon, great job. As I read your post, I could really visualize the bags of dogfood and how heavy that is. Then I started imagining the equivalent of dog foods bags that I am carrying around (about 80 pounds worth), and what that is doing to my knees, and my self-esteem. I am not consistent, and I was just telling myself today, it’s time I get back into exercising, eating right, and taking care of me for a change!

Great post! I love the example of dog food to fat. Never thought of it that way before, but so true. I recently stumbled across a great book titled, “Love Your Body, Love Your Life,” by Sarah Maria that helped me realize that I was valuable and that I could change my body image. I have been going to the gym now for 2 months, have only lost 8 pounds, but it is something. I will continue to move forward in my weight loss goals and appreciate the advice you share on this blog.

    Hi Shannon,

You are inspiring, all the way to South Africa. Great job. I am 32 years old and I am 13kg’s overweight and so unhappy. I have bought the interval workout CD and still need to get out and start working out. Good for you…you are my senior and you are showing me how it is done.

    Holly,

My thyroid decided to stop functioning the way it should and I am now taking natural supplements to try and get the thyroid back on track, but I am loosing and gaining weight like I am on a see saw ride.

Should I just get the thyroid on track first before worrying too much about my weight loss?
