Oh, I am fighting back the tears just reading all of this. My oldest starts Kindergarten in 1 week. Sometimes my heart just aches wondering if I have spent enough quality time with him. I'm so looking forward to hearing your tips to make the transition easier and for lunches & snacks. P.S. Tyler, my kids just love you! Thanks for being a great role model. ;).

Hi Holly,

I can so relate to you, wanting to encourage him to be independent while still being there for him when he needs it... At Kindergarten (in Germany it's not part of school, it's a completely different building) we are expected to take them to the classroom door and pick them up there. Something to do with making sure the parents are caring for the children.
I have to do another 1st day on Monday. My 4 yo is starting Kindergarten! I can't tell you how nervous I am, and how I'm wondering whether I'll still be able to sleep in until 6 am.. will I have to be even more strict with myself and roll out of bed at 5.45 to get my workout in?

I'm looking forward to your tips.

Hi Holly

Well I am glad that Mum's on both sides of the world rush every morning no matter how prepared we think we are. Hence one of the reasons I changed my exercise to just before tea instead of first thing in the morning. One less thing to stress about on those busy mornings when you feel like the only thing you have been saying is "hurry up" "turn the tv off" as you are rushing out the door.
I have to ask - what is a car line number and why does your child need one? Something we don't have over here.
Cheers from a busy working Mum.

I have just read Holly's story and all the replies. I have such a warm feeling right remembering all those "first" days for my two sons. They are 27 and 25 now. The first days were all so special, but yes, alas they do grow up! The hardest one of them all was when my oldest son went to college. He had been diagnosed with Type I diabetes at 16 and we were still reeling from all the upper respiratory infections he was getting because of it. We literally poured him into the car after packing all his stuff while he laid in bed. We drove him 4 1/2 hours away, unloaded everything and left him standing outside his dorm with a 102 degree fever! No, I wasn't a bad mom! He had to be there. Yes, he recovered and so did I. As hard as they are, we will survive! Enjoy each and every "first" and God bless you all! Gay

It is funny that I was just thinking this same thing. My kids start next week and everyone seems to think that we, as parents, should be so happy to have our days back, but I am very sad. Our 4th (and final) child starts kindergarden this year. For the last 13 years their has always been a kid or two at home that I can take places and do things with, but now their are none! It's not as if I won't have anything to do, but I really like having a child around all the time to make plans with. Ok, that's about all I can say for now because it's still hard. We have to let them grow up and move on while hoping we have done our best. Holly, I am so glad to hear you managed through Tyler's first day back. As always you are inspiring.

I cannot wait for your busy mom tips. This is most definitely going to be a busy one for our family
I have a son entering 4th grade and another entering kindergarten. As much as I've looked forward to the day both my kids will be in school, I'm sad they're growing so fast. Right before my eyes!

Oh dear, I thought you were preggers, too!! haha

My oldest starts Kindergarten next month, and my second starts preschool... I don't know what I will do!! At least for both of them it's only about 2 1/2 hours. About enough time to get grocery shopping, etc. done with my youngest two! I think I will be quite emotional, too.

Good luck to you both!!
