Most of the time I post stories of women achieving amazing results or providing tips and motivation to inspire you to take action ….
Today is different.
Today I am writing to you about something even more important….
…your children.
As a parent, the fact that you are taking responsibility for your own health and fitness sets a great example for your children.
Unfortunately it is not enough.
With the Holiday Season upon us, children will be receiving countless stacks of video games, computers, movies and other electronic games and widgets that will only lend to a passive and sedentary lifestyle.
Already, more than 30% of all children are either overweight or obese.
This number is expected to be as high as 50% by 2010.
If we are to change this…..it starts with you.
You are not only a parent, but a parent who understands the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.
~ We can no longer rely on PE classes at school.
~ We can no longer assume our children will choose to spend time being active like we did when we were young.
~ We can no longer expect anyone but ourselves to teach and raise healthy, active children.
The responsibility is ours.
When it comes to the health, fitness and future of our children an honest assessment of the presence – or absence – of physical culture must be taken.
Brian Grasso, the world’s leading Youth Fitness Expert, takes a moment to explain “physical culture” after our meeting in Chicago to film DVDs with Tyler about the importance of Play for an upcoming Kids Fitness series.
Meaningful, quality play involves the whole child: gross motor, fine motor, senses, emotion, intellect, individual growth and social interaction.
This Holiday Season along with the other gifts your children will receive, give them the gift of True Play.
Play that ignites the imagination, moves the body the way it was meant to be moved and evokes the spirit of what it means be a kid!
Unlike many gifts that lose their luster about a week after they have been opened, this gift will give them pure enjoyment and instill memories that will last a lifetime.
My gift suggestion for you…..the most essential guide every parent should have, one that provides you with the knowledge, tools and motivation to infuse the magic of play back into the lives of your children and your family.

For those of you who are determined to raise fit, active and happy children I am confident this will be your favorite gift of the holiday season.
I cannot imagine what my life would be like if this was taken from me.
Have you taken the time to Thank Your parents?
Imagine your own children having the same gratitude.
Give this gift back to your children.

Holly,
Such a wonderful post today! Brian is so dead on about the virtues and importance of play and early childhood development. Back in college I had a professor who was considered to be one of the world leading experts in “play” for children. I can say with certainty that Brian knows what he’s talking about.
It is so unfortunate that much of the physical culture has been lost. Today more than ever children are inactive and as a result get diagnosed with things like ADD or ADHD and therefore end up on drugs like Ritalin. Amazingly enough a little daily physical activity usually will completely improve a child’s ability to focus, reduce moodiness, improve grades and increase happiness. Physical culture is amazing all benefits with no downside!
Thanks for bringing the importance of play to light.
