Here Are Some Father’s Day Tips To Help Your Husband or Dad Have a Great Father’s Day
~ Pat Rigsby
I’m writing this as a favor to my dear wife Holly, because most posts sharing Father’s Day lists and gift ideas are pretty lame. They either don’t give you anything that the Father in your life will actually enjoy or they are trying to sell you whatever they have to offer.
I’m going to try to avoid both of those – which should be easy since I don’t have a product to sell you to give dear old (or not so old) Dad.
So here are a few tips in no particular order to help Dad enjoy a great Father’s Day:
• Make the day about him.
As you well know, once you become a parent, letting a day, or for that matter – even a few hours be about you can be a chore. Make the day about what he enjoys. If he’s a golfer, set a tee time and let him play a round then follow up with a cookout later in the day. If he’s a sports fan, take him to a game. Base the day around what he enjoys.
• Gifts are great – if they’re great gifts.
That doesn’t mean expensive, just thoughtful. The golf or ballgame was a perfect example. Just pass on the ‘let’s get Dad a tie for Father’s Day.’ Not a good plan. Personally, I’d prefer a $5 gift that is thoughtful over a $500 gift that isn’t.
• Make today a starting point.
If you’re like us, you probably have a million and one things going on and sometimes it can be a battle to spend as much time together as you’d like. Use Father’s Day as a kind of mid-year Resolution time and commit to start spending a little more time together as a family. Here’s a tip – schedule time to ‘hang out’, both as a family and as a couple. If we can schedule everything else, there’s no reason family time should be treated with any less importance.
• Don’t try to get him to do Fit Yummy Mummy!
Any self-respecting guy with an ounce of testosterone coursing through him will not do a fitness program with ‘Yummy Mummy’ in the title. The program is great – but you wouldn’t take him to Victoria’s Secret to go shopping for boxers – don’t try to sell him on doing Fit Yummy Mummy. If you want to get him to workout with you or just have a program that will offer similar results and also can be done in just a few minutes a day, go with Chris Lopez’s Fit and Busy Dad program.
OK – that’s it. Follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way to helping your husband or dad have a great Father’s Day and who knows, you might even get a little more family time and a ‘fitter’ husband out of it as an added bonus!

this is great info. My husband has a busy fathers day every 4 years when it falls on June 21. My husbands birthday is the 21st and our wedding anniversary is the 21st. Very interesting day…..
Wow – Theresa!
That is a LOT to celebrate ; )
I just love the way your entire family gets involved in great things. You are all three very special! Thanks for sharing.
Great post Patrick! Thank you so much for sharing.
I was stressing at work this morning trying to figure out what to “buy”. Your tips are a good reminder that it’s not how much you spend but the thought behind the gift. It’s so easy to forget with all the commercialism out there.
Thanks!
