Kick Start Your Day With An Energizing Smoothie





I mapped out all the reasons why Green Smoothies are a part of my daily nutrition plan in the post “Why Green Smoothies Rock”.




Quick recap….Green smoothies provide a concentrated amount of fresh greens in quick and convenient drink. Plus blending greens and fruits together breaks down the cells of these plants which improves digestibility and makes it easier for your body to assimilate.

Incorporating more greens and natural foods has been a goal of mine – especially since the start of my pregnancy. A great starter recipe can be found above. I typically use a cup or so of water, coconut milk or hemp milk for my liquid, then add a couple cups of greens, a fruit and a scoop of protein based powder – right now using Veganique.

Banana Blueberry Smoothie Energizing Smoothie Recipes




Green Pome-Berry Smoothie




You will need:



• 1 medium sized banana

• 6-8oz (1 cup) frozen blueberries

• 1/2 cup pomegranate juice

• 1/2 cup almond, rice, soy or hemp milk (I use Hemp or coconut milk)

• 1 Tbsp. soaked flaxseed

• 4-6 chucks pineapple (Fresh or frozen)

• 2 cups spinach (Fresh or frozen)








Green Machine Smoothie




You will need:




• 3-5 leaves of kale

• 1 kiwi

• 1 avocado

• 2 Tbsp. of flaxseed oil

• ¼ inch fresh peeled ginger

• 1 Tbsp. of spirulina or SuperGreens powder (I use Veganique)

• Add water and ice

    Thanks. I’m supposed to cook for my new vegetarian girlfriend this weekend and have absolutely no idea what to make! I found a loadlots of recipes at this vegetarian recipe site but with so mnay to choose from I just got confused. Do you have any favorites youself, like .. the tastiest vegetarian recipe, ever, or something?! Thanks in advance! I’m so clueless about this vegetarian stuff

    Never thought about adding spinach or better yet any leafy greens to a smoothie. This will be something I will try. This year I’ve become a stay at home mom and getting a 1st grader out the door and having a 4 and 2 year old home all day really runs my energy low. So this may give me the kick start I need. Thanks for the ideas.

    Thanks Holly, I love my morning smoothies and always add spinach into the mix. Have never tried a complete Green Smoothie before and would never have thought of adding Avocado – will have to give it a go. Looks very nutritious. Thanks for all your wonderful tips and advice. Rache :)

    Holly,
    I added a green smoothie a day in my meal plan about a year ago and you’re so right about feeling lighter and more energized! I even have people ask me what I’m doing differently to my skin – nothing but feeding it more nutrients :) My favorite is an apple or pear, blueberry, spinach with either a water base or almond milk. So many combos though – this summer I’ve been loving a peach or nectarine, berry (whatever I have on hand), spinach and watermelon smoothie with a water base. Yum! Playing around with the combos is half the fun!
