Susan Celebrates A Better Body After Baby Two Years of Fit Yummy Mummy

Susan Pearson began her Fit Yummy Mummy journey in November 2007 just as Holly began her website. She wanted a Better Body After Baby, so she purchased Holly’s e-book and started working out in super sets.
A couple of months later Holly began the ClubFYM website and that is when things really began to change for Susan.
Initially weight loss was not a goal or need for Susan when she began Fit Yummy Mummy. She was looking for a way to be fit and toned and to gain definition in her body. She had tried different programs of exercise, but none combined nutrition and exercise. None were a lifestyle change. So, her results were limited with those programs.
Not that the exercise programs she had tried before were not good programs, but the defining point of Holly’s program was the personal support and community support from the ClubFYM website; those two factors made all the difference. They provided encouragement, instruction and the blueprint for positive changes.
When Susan began Fit Yummy Mummy, she read and followed the e-book, but was not maximizing her workouts – until she began corresponding with Holly. Holly posted a sample of one of her workouts – which had something like “115# barbell squats” and Susan, incredulously asked her if that was “for real?”
Holly said “Yes! If you want real results you have to challenge yourself with heavier weights.”
So, motivated to challenge herself, (…because Susan is a bit on the over-achieving (OA) side of the spectrum in all of life…) she said..
“Bring it on!”
She began challenging herself on every workout by increasing the weights she was using and documenting each workout.
On the nutrition side, she began a food journal and kept track of what she was eating with an online menu planner. This allowed Susan to know exactly where her diet needed improvements – for example, if she was consuming 1800 calories daily, the planner told her how many should come from protein, carbs, etc. These guidelines enabled her to modify her diet to meet the goals she had set.
The interesting point here is that this is when she actually began eating.
Her diet had consisted mainly of coffee and peanut M&M’s and skipped meals, but on average, one meal a day.
This was just standard procedure for Susan for years. It allowed her to keep the thin physique she had at that time.
Susan had been focused on a number on the scale, and her way to achieve that was to NOT eat. So, when she began the Fit Yummy Mummy program, she was apprehensive about gaining weight because she would be consuming more calories than she had been.
But, what she found was that by eating the Fit Yummy Mummy way, this provided the necessary fuel her body needed each day. Susan says, “Eating the FYM way does NOT make you gain weight, even if it is a calorie increase from what your body is used to.”
As a matter of fact, today Susan probably consumes twice as many calories as she used to—and looks better and is stronger than she ever has been!
One of the funniest comments that Susan gets from people is “Oh my, you must never eat!” To which she replies, “No, I eat more now than I have in years.”
Knowing WHAT to eat and WHEN to eat it makes ALL the difference in the world.
Susan says, “I never would have thought about having protein at each meal. I figured it was added calories–a no-no in my book. Now, I can hardly imagine a meal without a protein. That is a HUGE no-no in my book now. FYM has taught me about healthy eating, and it is SOOOO important. I eat every 3-4 hours and make sure I eat right. I feel better, and my body thanks me for being considerate of what it needs.”
By following the workouts, challenging herself with heavier weights and sticking to the Fit Yummy Mummy eating plan she began to notice changes.
Within two months Susan was surprised to see what she could actually do in each workout – by being able to consistently increase the weights she was lifting. This resulted in positive changes in her body. Even her children noticed the muscles in her arms while driving one day – wow!

Stability Ball pullovers for your triceps – now using 35 #db
Dumbbell swings – now using 50 #db
Squats – favorite with a barbell – now using 125 #s
Bent over 1-arm rows – now using 65 #dbs
For intervals:
Sprints
Mixed intervals vs. doing ONE thing – the variety is appealing
Susan says, “I started with 10 and 12 pound db’s because that seemed like a good thing. It was easy and I could toss them around and do a bunch of reps.
Not smart!
If you can toss the weights and do loads of reps, you are fooling yourself. It must be challenging if you want results. On a note of caution, I do believe it is important to NOT trade weight for form. Make sure you do the exercise right first, and then increase the weights.”
Susan says, “The online community is a great, safe place to meet friends that are supportive and fun. Holly makes every effort to ensure that ClubFYM is a safe place to find support and encouragement.” It is a place that Susan looks forward to logging onto during each week, despite her extremely busy schedule.
Being able to meet some of her “online friends” at the 1st annual Fit Yummy Mummy Shopping Trip cemented some of the friendships that she continues to enjoy on ClubFYM today.
“ClubFYM is a place where you can meet someone, somewhere, who has the same struggles and goals that you have – and you can support each other via the website. This provides great encouragement and excitement to log in as often as possible.”
One of Susan’s great pleasures is sharing ClubFYM and the FYM lifestyle with anyone who is interested in self-improvement. She has introduced many friends to FYM, who are now enjoying the benefits of Holly’s great program.
This semester, Susan is not only working and teaching college classes, but she is also taking college classes for even more degrees….
So, while at the college, she occasionally gets time to workout at the gym there. She has a gym at home which she uses three times a week for resistance training, but the college gym has equipment that she does not have at home. Case in point: calf raises.
Susan, in her typical OA fashion, decided to conquer the calf raises machine. She is up to 255# now. This is the equivalent of lifting a LARGE man, WITH a case of beer. Bwaa haha haha
Hey – these skills come in handy in all sorts of ways!
When many people see Susan’s ‘before’ pictures say, “Wow, I wish I looked like her before pictures!” But, even though she was thin, she was not fit. She was not giving her body the fuel that it needed to grow strong.
One of the most frequent questions that Susan gets on ClubFYM is “what do you do to get those terrific Better Body After Baby results?” Her answer is “I do what Holly’s e-book says to do! I follow the FYM program – and it works.”
For years Susan has worked out, belonged to gyms, worked out at home and always desired to have a physique that had tone and definition. It is only with FYM that she was able to achieve this, by combining nutrition, exercise and support.
“No matter how busy you are, you can ALWAYS find/make time for the FYM workout plan. You do not have to go to a gym. I love being able to work out at home. I am busier now than I ever have been and I still find time to do my workouts most every day. Going to a gym is nice for variety, but the fundamentals can all be achieved by working out at home.”
Susan says, “Fit Yummy Mummy is about being FIT and being HEALTHY, not about being a certain number on the scale or a certain size. It is about making positive life changes and helping other people make positive changes for their lives also.”
