Let’s be honest ladies ….how you look directly affects how you feel. And you can be beautiful and buff.

I will be the first to tell you that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with looking good while you workout. From putting on your makeup to wearing cute workout clothes.

I beleive in Doing what makes YOU feel pretty and I am happy to know I am not alone! I recently received feedback from a Fit Yummy Mummy fan who has a few words to say on this topic – plus she was curious as about what my personal “beauty routine” is all about – so I mapped that out for you too in “5 Steps to Looking Your Best”.

Taking Time for Ourselves and Looking Our Best!

From: Lorraine

Message: Hi Holly…I recently came across your website and You Tube videos and I just love all the advice and very helpful workout routines you provide. Although I may not be a ‘Mommy’ trying to get into shape, I AM a 47 year old woman who feels inspired to follow your numerous suggestion and workout routines…thanks!

After watching Summer Fat Loss Survival Kit: Stay Fit Tip #1 I realized I have to finally say something about how beautiful you always look! The mistake that a lot of busy women make is thinking that they can’t workout and look good at the same time…my friends and family are always telling me that it’s silly to put the effort into applying makeup knowing that I’m “just working out”…I believe, on the other hand, that it’s another quick way for all of us to find that time for ourselves, to do things that make us feel good about ourselves.

That all said, because I’m as passionate about looking my best as I am about exercising, I would love to know what your morning ‘routine’ consists of and what those beautiful colours (shadows, liner, etc.) you wear on your eyes are!! Also, your face makeup….love it! You are truly gorgeous, inside and out, and inspire all of us to take care of ourselves in the same ways you do!

Again, thank you and I look forward to my new membership with FYM!

Sincerely,

Lorraine

Thank you for your kind words and all your support Lorraine!

Now, Lorraine brought up an excellent point – The way you Look and achieving Great looking skin is a direct reflection of not just the products we put on our face, but how we take care of ourselves.

As you will see, my routine consists of more than just “beauty products”. Just as true fat loss results must go deeper than a number on a scale, so should our outward appearance. If you neglect the basics of self care, achieving a healthy, vibrant glow is nearly impossible.

5 Steps to Looking Your Best

I follow a what can be considered a 5 step “beauty” process.

1. Skin Care
I think the 1st step starts the night before you go to bed – and I used to be guilty of this…Going to Sleep with your Makeup On! So be sure you cleanse and moisturize your skin before your face hits the pillow!

My favorite line of skin care is Philosophy – so the night before I cleanse with Purity, throw on some Hope in a Jar, Hope in a Tube and I do use a little bit of Lancome’s R.A.R.E – since my skin IS about to turn 37.

The next morning in the shower I wash my face with Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash. Yes, I do shower 1st thing and THEN start my day, get my workout in, etc.

This is the routine that works best for me, for I enjoy the perk I get from my shower and for feeling ready to take on the day – even though I workout after this….much easier for me to freshen up after a workout and keep runnin’!

Makeup-wise I feel like I have tried everything and love the look and feel of the powder based foundations. I am really happy with the line by Smashbox. Halo is my foundation of choice – this is a light, loose powder, mineral based foundation. I apply a Luminizing primer underneath – it is quick and simple. Also love the glow Bare Escentuals Bare Radiance gives my face. Other than that I use Lancome eye shawdows, liners and mascara. Since these products can be expensive, I love to find the Gift with Purchase specials and even see what I can grab on Ebay.

2. Hydrate!
Nothing zaps the glow of your skin faster than being dehydrated.
Make sure you are drinking at least 6 – 8 eight oz. glasses of water a day. NO – drinks filled with artificial sweeteners and sugars do not count….and can actually lead to more wrinkles!!!

3. Supplements
I cannot speak highly enough about Prograde’s VGF+25 and what a positive impact it has had on the health and well being of my mind and body.

4. Sleep
I make sure to get a Minimum of 7 hours sleep.

5. Nutrition
Yes…everything is connected to what you choose to eat.

Just as you cannot fill your body with junk and expect the fat to magically disappear from exercise alone….the foods you eat have a direct impact on how you FEEL and just how radiant and clear your skin can be. I make an effort to eat supportive foods about 80-90% of the time. Not only do whole, natural, unprocessed foods lend to beautiful skin….eating this way fills you with energy and has mood boosting effects – all of which add to your beautiful appearance.

    Hi Holly,

I checked out the Prograde and saw there are 90 tablets in each bottle, but couldn’t find what a serving is/or how long a bottle is supposed to last. Can you tell me?

    Thanks!

    Prograde lasts 1 month – you take 3 capsules a day – 30 days.

Great share, Holly! I needed the reminder about not going to bed with makeup on as I’m really bad about doing that. And I also needed the reminder about food having an effect on how our skin looks – it gives me one more reason to continue to strive to get and keep my food as clean as possible.

Lorraine is right, Holly, you always look great and your colors are ‘spot on’ :) I too am a Smashbox girl & just wanted to share with the ladies, that Smashbox.com now has a feature you can use to determine the right eye, cheek and lip colors for your skin tone, and hair and eye color!

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for the motivation!

    Hi Holly,

Would you mind telling us where you purchase your workout clothes?

My workout clothes are purchased in a variety of places. I am particular about how things fit and when I find a brand I like – I stick with it.
Love underamour shorts – find these at sporting goods stores – the one by me is called Dicks.
As far as tops go – seems the sporting goods stores have cute styles but nothing fits me right. So I opt for regular cotton tanks found at Kohls or Old Navy.
Sometimes I get lucky and find cute pieces at a TJ Max or a Marshalls.

Holly, as a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant I can say that you’re absolutely right. How a woman looks completely affects how she feels. If she feels good about herself she feels good about what she’s doing. That’s the best part about selling the products, seeing the satisfaction on women’s faces and boosting their moods and knowing that they will be 100% satisfied or I’ll give them their money back.

I absolutely LOVE philosophy skin care products. Purity made Simple is awesome. I wear waterproof mascara and it takes it off. My skin never feels dry. The Microdelivery Exfoliating Face Wash, Hope in a Jar & Hope in a Tube are equally as wonderful. I also use Bare Escentuals Mineral Powders because they allow my skin to breathe and look luminous. The sunscreen in them is a bonus as well.

Thank you for this post!! I always have trouble with looking pretty and getting my workouts in! I like the idea of showing and putting on my face and then workout! I think I will try it out and see how it works for me!!

I am a true believe in taking care of my face due to having adult acne but also for youth!

    Thanks

Wow! Thanks Holly for posting my recent email…it’s so refreshing to hear from other women that I am NOT focusing on the ‘wrong things’ in terms of my appearance…as I said, I’ve been told by friends and family that they don’t understand the effort I make to always try and look my best, whether shopping, working or working out!

Without wanting to sound like too much of a ‘fanatic’ about your products, my colouring is similar to yours and I absolutely love the colours you wear on your eyes. I too love Lancome products and would ever grateful if you could let me know exactly what the colours are that you are using for your shadows and liners, gorgeous healthy looking blush and, if you still have the time, your lip colour:-)

Gotta love the Hypnose mascara by Lancome! My favorite to date!!

Thanks again for your reply…you’re such an inspiration!

Holly, this email is totally unrelated to makeup and or skin care but I am desperate! I am a 49 year old mother of 3, they are all grown up, 18 and older. I was always a skinny girl until a few years ago when I started peri-menopause. Over the last three years I have put on 25 pounds and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to take it off. I worked out at home first, then joined a gym and even worked with a trainer for a couple of months. I know that I got stronger but I lost no weight and my body did not change enough to see a difference in my clothes or how they fit. I eat mostly organic fruits and vegetables, chicken, fish and grass fed beef. I try to stay under 1600 calories a day and I workout 3-5 times a week. I put together a plan, wrote it out, try to read it daily along with my positive affirmations. I do strength training, resistance training and intervals. The scale won’t budge! I am so frustrated. I do have Hypothyroidism but take synthroid on a daily basis for that. I have been to my doctor several times over the past couple of years thinking my thyroid levels were not right but she says it is because I am going through menopause that I am having such a difficult time. Do you work with women who have had this experience and can you help? I want to feel good about me again. Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Holly,

I really LOVE working out in really cute workout clothes in front of a mirror. Watching my muscles form as I workout totally motivates me to push even harder in my workouts. It also helps me to have better form. I love Otomix brand and I think they are at Dicks Sporting Goods. Great post! :)

It is so true about how you feel on the outside is as important as how you feel on the inside. If I don’t have even a little bit of make up on I feel tired, ugly, and nude. LOL I’m just so used to having it on. I sell Avon and love using their products. Washing your face at night is very important. If you don’t wash off all the oils, pollutants, and makeup from your face, then use a cream to help rejuvinate your skin, you actually add years to your skin. (I learned that from beauty courses). So day and night are both important to keeping a good skin care regimine. It also helps your makeup go on and stay on better. Enough said…lol Thanks for reminding us we do need a little boost of confidence even when working out
