Tyler was thrilled to be able to share his favorites in today’s Video Tutorial - “Top 7 Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids”, Tyler did make a big list but chose 7 since this is how old he is.
Tyler decided to make this video because last week he grabbed my Flip Cam and took you through a tour of our Snack Drawer – if you missed it check here >>> Video Tour of Snack Drawer. This sparked dozens of kind requests for more snack ideas from the busy moms out there.
As you will see, we keep it simple and focus on a quality protein and produce for each and every snack. This keeps kids satisfied, provides them with energy and fills their bodies with the most important nutrients for a fit and healthy growing body.
Resources and Tips
~ Prograde Lean Chocolate Meal Replacement can be found here prograde.com
~ Be sure to choose natural peanut butter. Many popular and store brands are loaded with sugars and/or trans fats.
~ Make your own smoothies with natural yogurt and fresh or frozen fruits.
~ For East Peel Hard Boiled Eggs, bring eggs to boil, add a teaspoon of baking soda, cook for 12 minutes, drain, run cold water over until cooled, peel and eat!
~ Each week we buy at least 3 different types of fresh fruits choosing a quantity we know we will use in 5-7 days to prevent spoiling.
Make it easy on yourself and plan your meals a week ahead of time. Invite your children to help you plan. Have them make a list of their favorite veggies and fruits. Then provide them with protein options. Make it a game as they combine the options to create new snacks.

WOW he is getting so BIG! He’s going to be so tall! You’re going to have to set him up with his own blog, website, and fitness program for kids soon! Star in the making!
Thanks, Tyler! Now we know what to have for snacks around here! You really helped out!
Thanks Tyler,
Those are great snack ideas. I am going to the store to stock up for my kids. I am sure they will love them. You are such a great help.
Thanks so much for these great ideas! Sometimes we are stuck in a rut and these are fresh, new ideas. My children (7 and 9) watched with me and were so sad they couldn’t play wtih Tyler. I love the rapport you share with him, Holly, it’s so sweet.
Thanks Tyler!! Those look yummy!
Good job Tyler! I love your snack choices!
I’ve made the switch to Greek Yogurt! I found one that is pretty good rather than plain (taking baby steps), it’s called FAGE 2% and the one I’ve found has fruit in it. It is delicious, and has 17g of sugar. My question is how much sugar is too much, even if it’s “real” organic sugar?
Tyler & Holly, thanks so much for the snack ideas. Not only are they great ideas for kids but also for adults…one of my favorites is the hummus and veggies.
Great job Tyler!!!! Thank you. You’re videos help my kids want to eat good-for-you snacks. Keep em coming.
Thanks for the snack ideas! I make my own applesauce, it is really easy and I think it tastes better (of course, it helps that we have a friend with an apple tree-we end up with an abundunace of apples each year). Applesauce is not hard to make. Use a large pot and core and slice the apples. You don’t have to peel them, but if you leave the peel on make sure you wash the apples well. Leaving the peel on will give the applesauce a blush color (with red apples). I like to cut the slices into chunks because the apples cook faster. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water to the pot, or more if needed. Bring the water to a boil and then simply simmer until the apples are mushy. Check on the pot occasionally and stir to make sure nothing is sticking, and to see if you need to add more water. When the apples are mushy you can run the sauce through a blender or food processor and make it as smooth as you wish, or just mash everything with a potato masher. Keep tightly sealed in the refrigator. I prefer to make applesauce in small batches so it will not go bad, but it could be canned. Follow procedures in a canning book to do that. It can also be frozen.
Hi Holly and Tyler
Thank you very much for sharing your kids snack ideas with us.
Do you have any kids exercises you could share with us, I live in Dubai, U.A.E and summer is here but we stay indoors most of the time as it is really to hot and humid to be outside unless we are swimming. Both my sons (7 & 10yrs)are actively involved in sports but as the holidays are around the corner, we need some ideas on how to stay fit! Can you help us?
Take Care
Nicki
Dear Holly,
What a great video! I think the snack ideas are great for children as well as for their parents. (My husband is so much like a child.)
Tyler sure is an adorable kid – Enthusiastic and happy.
Good work Tyler. Hope to hear more from you.
And Holly, I always enjoy your videos. I am a fitness enthusiast, almost always making healthy food choices. Of course once in a while (read once a month) there would be jacket potatoes and cheese (with peppers, onions and lots of Heinz tomato beans) or pizza or butter parathas. And there is always ‘Food for thought’ in your videos.
One question: When i put food in the deep freeze, the water content changes the taste of the food somewhat (after thawing and cooking). What can I do to prevent this?
Lots Luv,
Vani
