Sometimes I feel the only way to beat food cravings is to go to bed!

~~~~~
I’m afraid to eat because I think it will make me fat….by the end of the day, I’m really hungry I’ll eat everything around me!
Now that you have started your workout and diet plan for your weight loss resolutions, what do you find most challenging?
Why vs. Willpower
In order to truly take control over your food cravings, we need to troubleshoot and get to the bottom of why these cravings occur.
- Habit
- Boredom
- Fatigue
- True hunger
- Eating too many processed/artificial foods
Curb Your Food Cravings Solutions
~~~~~

#1 Eat a balanced meal every 3 to 4 hours

~~~~~
The cravings you have may simply be true hunger! If you are dieting to lose weight and choose to skip breakfast and eat as little as possible during the day, of course your body will scream out. You need to nourish your body with supportive meals throughout the day. Craving fight meals are ones that are no less than 100 calories and contains a quality protein and produce.
~~~~~

#2 Drink Water

~~~~~
Sometimes our bodies are simply dehydrated. The brain control centers for thirst and hunger are next to each other, and the signals sometimes overlap. What you think is a craving for food, may actually be your body’s cry for water.
~~~~~

#3 Do Something Different

~~~~~
Some cravings occur out of habit. If this is you, time to establish a new routine.
If your trying to beat food cravings and they hit hard when you sit down in front of the computer, watch TV or you maybe think you need something sweet after a meal, this is the best time to do something different and create a new habit – one that does not sabotage your results.
~~~~~

Brush your teeth, chew on a piece of gum, sip on some hot tea that has a naturally sweet taste. A cup of fresh brewed tea has been my lifesaver for me. I enjoy a licorice based tea has a wonderfully sweet flavor.

~~~~~
#4 Wait it Out
~~~~~

Did you know…..a craving can only last for 15 minutes – then it goes away. Make a list of things you can do to distract you for 15 minutes. When craving hits….grab a bottle of water and get to that activity – you can even set a timer. Once you hit 15 minutes…your cravings are gone and you are EMPOWERED!

~~~~~
#5 Move
~~~~~

The #1 appetite suppressant – exercise!

~~~~~
If you want to beat a food craving and feel one coming on, instead of running to the kitchen use this energy to do something as simple as go for a walk. Can’t leave? Then simply go through 2-4 of your favorite exercises. A Fit Yummy Mummy favorite is Y-Squats. All you need is YOU and enough space to stand.
    Thanks for sharing these tips, Holly. They are great reminders and I think if I keep them in mind, maybe they will help me as I can see myself in this list.
    This is exactly what I needed! I have just started Holly’s NY Transformation challenge and I am eating so well all day until after supper when I crave sweet. I did have a cup of tea with stevia extract in it the other night and it helped with my cravings. Great advice Holly!
    Excellent tips holly glad I found your blog. I like the going for the walk idea whenever the stomach gets hungry and eating a balanced meal every 3 to 4 hours.
    Great tips Holly. They have often helped me stay away from temptation but there is one more I would like to share because sometimes the cravings are just too hard to resist. If you have strong will power then you can even taste your craving, actually put it in your mouth, chew it, savour it, and then just spit it out. All the taste and none of the calories. I hope this helps.
    Thank you, Holly! Great reminder! Eating small meals often is key for me!!! And drinking plenty of water!! If I get an UN-healthy craving I make myself a smoothie with spinach, green tea, chocolate whey protein powder, cocoa, vanilla, pinch of stevia. SO satisfying! I get real food but feel like I’m having a treat at the same time!!!
    Thanks Holly- Wow, #4 ‘Wait it Out’ works!!! I’ve never heard a tip like that before, and i tried it yesterday.
    I had a craving for coffee (it was 7pm, total recipe for a restless nights sleep) so i checked my watch & waited 15 mins… and about 2 hrs later i realised that i’d completely forgotten about the coffee? Strange, but i guess giving myself that space took the power out of it. I’ll be using this one more often :)
