Post Pregnancy Diet Tips. A post by Holly Rigsby

Holiday Dinners and Sugary Sweets are a common Post Pregnancy Diet concern over the holidays!

Overeat and not only are you taking in way too many calories but your body goes into fat storage mode!

Eating too much and too often will most certainly…

- zap your energy
– disrupt your concentration and focus
– impair your immune system
– elicit mood swings
– accelerate the aging process
– increase cravings
– contribute to the Dreaded Holiday Weight Gain

What is a Fit Yummy Mummy in the making to do for a Post Pregnancy Diet?

You can enjoy the season and the best foods it has to offer without sacrificing your waistline. The following Holiday Calorie Control Strategies will help you practice Smart Indulging so you can Stay Slim this Holiday Season.

Holiday Hottie Tip #1 ~ Have a Plan

Food is going to be everywhere. Even if it’s not right in front of your face, you sure can smell it, maybe you are the one baking/making it, maybe you are the one in charge of serving it….

Trying to just “stay away from it” is pretty unrealistic.

When you can’t have something, you want it even more. Allow yourself what you’d like but take only half the amount you normally would. This automatically cuts your calories, sugar and fat in half!

Holiday Hottie Tip #2 ~ Eat!

“Eat” meaning….Don’t starve yourself prior to the holiday event

Not only will you slow your metabolism down to a hearty fat storing rate, arriving ravenous will guarantee overindulgence.

Instead, start each day with a supportive breakfast – particularly something high in protein and high fiber, high quality carbohydrate.

~~~~
Rolled oats are my favorite
- especially during fall and winter. I enjoy creating new flavors for rolled oats like mixing a scoop of Prograde Lean in with a spoonful of almond butter and a splash of almond milk. Sprinkle with cinnamon and this becomes almost too sinful to enjoy as a healthy breakfast!
~~~~

Also be sure to eat something light before you go to your holiday get together. Choosing a supportive high protein snack before you leave will help you feel full longer. Then you’ll be less likely to overindulge which will help to reduce overall calorie consumption.

Holiday Hottie Tip #3 ~ Be Drunk With Holiday Spirit!

Did you know the average alcoholic drink contains 200 calories per glass while an 8-ounce cup of eggnog with rum contains a whopping 450 calories?

Not only does alcohol pack a lot of empty calories, but it shuts down your body’s ability to burn fat. This becomes a double or even triple whammy if you are already overeating your favorite holiday meals and sweet desserts.

Plus over-consumption lowers inhibitions and self-control…..not a good combination when you’re near the holiday buffet table!

Make it a goal this Holiday Season to Limit your intake of alcohol and you will see quite a difference in your ability to Stay on Track and Avoid Holiday Weight Gain. I hope you enjoyed these 3 calorie control strategies.

    Well Holly, you had me until the diet soda recommendation.

    Diet products are LOADED with synthetic chemicals. These chemicals in diet soda pop are currently being identified as a MAJOR indicator of being overweight and unhealthy.

    They sabotage your lifestyle (I DO NOT diet, ever) in two ways.

    #1 – They are “sweet” (albeit chemical sweet, but still sweet just like high fructose corn syrup) and, in my opinion – and experience – rev up your tastebuds to want more sweetness. Funny how many times I have heard my friends and family tell me that drink diet soda so they can “splurge” on other non-nutritious sweet things.

    For years I allowed myself one pop a day (not diet) and exchanged it for any other processed snack. It wasn’t until after I stopped drinking pop altogether that I stopped craving the processed snacks too.

    #2 – the diet sodas “coat” your intestines blocking nutrient absorption and creating the SAME good/bad bacteria chemical imbalance that eating too much sugar causes. Amazing to me how many of my friends that drink diet soda, and don’t eat sugary foods, also have recurring yeast infections.

    Now, I’m not a complete anti-soda freak and I enjoy a coke as much as the next guy. But when I discovered the dietary truth about sodas – either diet OR HFCS – it opened my eyes.

    So now if I really get a craving, I go to my local Mexican restaurant and grab myself an ice cold (glass!) bottle of imported Mexican coke. 10 oz (there portions are smaller in other countries) of pure cane sugar and oh so delicious – in moderation of course.

    Wow, that is a mighty impressive high horse you are on, TeresaE!

    Holly, those are such great tips for having to break it down to three. (I get that one diet soda out of the whole healthy lifestyle is not going to sabotage our health and efforts. Thanks for including that, tho, I’m sure reluctantly.)

    I love the oatmeal idea as a healty treat! I too have come up with some really great clean oatmeal recipes that are totally delicious enough to make me feel like I’ve had a cheat! And, no sugar needed, either! Not at all like the bland gummy glue that I grew up with! : )

    Thanks for these great tips, Holly!

    Wow Really?

    Ha!
    Thanks Sally – I sure hope Teresa feels better about herself after that rant.

    Not sure how suggesting a diet cola over a high calorie alcoholic drink sabotages your lifestyle.

    Funny!

    Working in this field is difficult and the tips were great. I get the diet soda thing because they are just bad as in half of the products in the grocery store,but we do this to encourage the person trying to make small changes in leading a healthy lifestyle, not scare them out of trying.I have lost 80 lbs, became a Trainer and will be a dietician soon to encourage and spread the love. I know diet soda is crap(there are great organic ones on the market by the way), but I would be fooling myself and doing my clients a disservice (as Holly MAY feel)if we thought we would all be clean eating gurus and fit fanatics the minute we started our venture (or years down the road for that matter) one step at a time…like getting through the holidays isn’t hard enough for us that know better, let alone the person just starting out.

    TeresaE, if you knew all about Holly and the FitYummyMummy community that she has, you would know that Holly would never endorse diet sodas as regular, supportive drinks. She always teaches us that we need to eat whole, healthy foods and to try and kick the sweets out of our lives completely – other than the once a week Planned Indulgence.

    Holly has helped so many people regain their figure and their confidence. She doesn’t do that by recommending us to eat chemicals that make our food taste better.

    If you would pay close attention, follow her suggestions, and even try out one month of clubfym, you would learn a lot from her. She has so much to give and is very supportive of all the women who go to her for advice.

    Please keep her recommendation in its context. I assure you that she has a lot that you can learn. Keep and open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised. I was and I did!
